WATERFLEET® DEPLOYS MOBILE UTILITY SERVICES TO AID FIRST RESPONDERS AT THE HERMITS PEAK/CALF CANYON FIRE IN NEW MEXICO
Company providing potable water, ice and sewage solutions to frontline emergency camp workers and responders
SAN ANTONIO, TX – (June 8, 2022) — In response to the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon fire that is burning in New Mexico, San Antonio-based WaterFleet® has deployed four mobile utility units to provide drinking water, ice and sewage solutions to camps housing first responders and frontline workers. In a coordinated effort, the units are being operated on-the-ground by WaterFleet’s qualified water treatment team with additional remote monitoring being supplied by support staff at WaterFleet’s San Antonio headquarters.
WaterFleet® deployed four rigs and seven team members this week to treat and repurpose approximately 12,000 – 16,000 gallons of water daily for multiple uses, including drinking water, ice, showers, handwash stations, use in kitchen for meal preparation, dust abatement and fire suppression efforts.
“This process will significantly reduce, and possibly eliminate, the impacts to the local water system,” said Alan R. Pyle, CEO of WaterFleet®. “Clean water is one of the most essential and immediate needs during the relief effort. The WaterFleet® team is providing the essential resources of potable water and wastewater treatment for the emergency camp to support the response teams who came rushing into the area to help. We are proud to be able to support the U.S. Forest Service and the approximately 1,400 brave fire personnel.”
The fire has been burning near Santa Fe, New Mexico for more than 30 days and has consumed 318,172 acres and is 65 percent contained. Firefighters have been working day and night to contain the fire.
Among the WaterFleet® units that have been deployed, all are capable of operating for an extended period of time, which is critical as recovery efforts in the affected areas are expected to take months. With these units onsite at the emergency camps, first responders, utility workers and other frontline workers gain access to clean potable water for drinking, hand washing, showering, ice and food preparation.
WaterFleet® prides itself in helping its clients reduce or eliminate the need for plastic bottled water and the related trash collection and disposal issues at work sites by providing access to clean drinking water and ice for workers on demand. To date, WaterFleet® has processed over 200 million gallons of on-site water to potable drinking water standards and has successfully treated over 150 million gallons of wastewater on site for reuse.
“The health and well-being of frontline workers and our first responders is vitally important to us,” Pyle said. “WaterFleet® brings an environmental and social lift through our services while being able to minimize or avoid the harsh conditions seen and experienced in a disaster area. WaterFleet® is committed to providing what people need in an emergency situation – a clean, safe and comfortable environment.”
